ABOUT US

Shades of Greatness — The LeSean McCoy Foundation — raises awareness, educates and may serve as a direct impact to an individual or family in need who has been diagnosed with or affected by ALS.

After LeSean’s late grandmother, Maryann Branch, lost her battle to ALS, the disease has become a driving force behind the creation of LeSean’s Foundation. Assistance comes in the forms of home modifications, communicative technology, clothing, transportation or other needs to assist the patient in living with ALS as manageable as possible.

The LeSean McCoy Foundation also seeks to be an active resource in the community by empowering and uplifting socially and economically challenged, at-risk youths in Pennsylvania, New York & Tampa. A goal is to share accurate information that educates, inspires and improves the quality of life for children, their families and their communities.

OUR IMPACT

Since 2010, LeSean, through his foundation has been advancing programs and partnerships that improve youth and familial outcomes related to educational, financial and health literacies in underserved communities in Pennsylvania, New York, Kansas City & most recently Tampa. Programming includes, but is not limited to:

Foster Home: The Shades of Greatness Foundation provides annual scholarships to college students in need. This scholarship is unique because it provides support for the students selected all throughout their college education. The scholarship aims to help the students with whatever they may need, including: meal plans, books, tuition payments, etc.

Scholarships: For many families, having access to a nutritious meal, social service programs, hiring companies, health information and assessments, school uniforms, backpacks and supplies for their children, all in one place set to a backdrop of games, exercise and fun is a welcome relief from the demands and stress of everyday life. We’ve served 1,500 families yearly through Community Day at no charge to the participants.

Community Day: A complete Thanksgiving meal to reduce food insecurity during a familial time of thanks and reflection. The meal consists of a turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and two vegetables.

Thanksgiving Events: Provided various needs from coats, hats and gloves for adults and children, to toiletries, cleaning supplies and personal care needs for senior citizens, we’ve proudly served thousands in the Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania communities, at no charge to the recipients.

Christmas Giveaway: Holiday party with food, entertainment, special guests and gifts for underserved communities. Hosting 250-300 families annually. All services provided at no charge to the participants.

Holiday Party: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Advocacy and Outreach (“ALS”) – ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease is a deadly neurodegenerative disease. The progression of weakness and paralysis of the muscles of the limbs and trunk as well as those that control vital functions such as speech, swallowing and later breathing varies from individual to individual. There’s no cure for ALS, that’s why you’ll find us participating in walks, taking steps for those who can no longer, raising funds for research and helping individuals, families and caretakers as there is significant costs for medical care, equipment, home health caregiving, and modifications. Needed help isn’t always provided by insurance. The Foundation may serve as a direct impact for assistance to affected individuals and families in the manner of communicative technology, home modifications, transportation, clothing or other needs to assist the patient in living with ALS as manageable as possible. Assistance is provided at no charge to the patient or family.

PREVIOUS EVENTS

The Tyrell Harris Memorial Scholarship: After the tragic and unexpected loss of Tyrell Harris in December 2014, Shades of Greatness, Inc. founded Labor of Love, the Tyrell Harris Memorial Scholarship to positively impact young adults' lives. We made a firm commitment to our Foundation Family member, Debra Harris, that we would continue a legacy of love, compassion and caring that exemplified Tyrell's spirit. The intent of this scholarship award is to enable students to attend college without accumulating burdensome debt. The Tyrell Harris Memorial Scholarship awards scholarships to qualifying students exhibiting academic excellence and a passion for giving back to the community. By inspiring young people to follow their passion while caring for others exemplifies the spirit of Tyrell and keeps his memory alive.
